TYPING CLASS

Last year was the first year that my school started having computer classes for its students.  The problem is that it’s mostly just a typing class, which is something almost anyone can pick up by themselves.  They don’t teach you anything about the importance of data backup, how to properly and efficiently search the web, or what to do if the system crashes.  I think it probably has a lot to do with the fact that most of the teachers come from an older generation, one that actually didn’t grow up with computers like we all did.  What we simply know because we grow with it they have don’t because they never had to bother with it.  Of course these days knowing about the importance of data backup, web searches, and whatever else is necessary for research, homework, and a lot of people’s jobs.  It should be something that’s taught in every school by the most qualified teachers possible.  But yet we have just a glorified typing class.  It’s as obsolete as a handwriting class.  If you can’t learn how to write or type by yourself, then you need to be a special class anyway.  But that’s just my opinion as a student and it obviously doesn’t count for a lot around here.
